Meeting a long held aspiration for a seaside town
Have you ever had one of those projects that you have meant to get around to for ages, but you never had the time to do it? An Interim Transport Strategy for Southend-on-Sea is just one of those projects. The Council has, for a long time, wanted to update its local transport plan, and have an interim strategy in the meantime to guide decision making.
They asked us to help out with the latter. The project quickly went from 'write a strategy' to 'and do all these other things too.' But those other things including talking to hard to reach groups, which we love doing.
We are working at a lightning pace with them. We have analysed current transport data, run some scenario planning and engagement workshops, and are now co-creating the strategy document itself with Council officers and selected stakeholders. It is crazy fast, but crazy fun so far.

Outcomes
We are still working on this. So we will share them once we have them.
"Our ambition is grounded in the values of Southenders. It is bold, challenging, but achievable. It will, however, need all elements of our community to work together to make it a reality."
