Helping transport planners control their agenda, literally.
Transport Planning Camp is an unconference that will bring together transport planners, engineers, technologists, social activists, academics and others interested in the intersection of transport, technology, and our lives.
At an unconference, only the theme and rooms are set up by the organisers. The sessions are suggested and decided upon by attendees on the day. It provides everyone with the opportunity to shape the event, so be prepared to get involved and have some fun!
We worked with a team of transport planning volunteers to deliver Europe's first Transport Planning Camp, on 7th November 2018 at the Open Data Institute in Leeds. And we are doing it all again in Manchester in November 2019.

When we first started to properly plan Transport Planning Camp a good 4 months in advance of it actually happening, we had no idea how it was going to play out. We got a lot of great advice from many people, including the team at OneTeamGov and Transportation Camp in the US, on all of the various issues on running an unconference. For which we are grateful for.
Then we delivered the day itself. We worked with the team on sessions that got people thinking of the sorts of topics that they wished to cover, and how we work with them to prioritise them. We set out the ground rules for the day, and got people excited. And it worked, as it was amazing. Amazing to see the energy in the room. Amazing to see the enthusiasm for transport planning. And amazing to see the willingness to do things differently.
We are also doing it all again in Manchester on 7th November 2019.

Outcomes
On the day itself, 50 participants from across transport planning and the country attended. In barely 30 minutes, they devised 12 sessions, and spent the rest of the day in intense and fun discussions.
We created a website. You can use it to access many of the tools that we created to run your own camp.
We also posted several blog posts. One from the organisers, another from Alice Calder, another from Anna Rothnie, and another from Rachelle De Mesa.
We also took a lot of pictures. Here are some of the best ones.
